Leica makes a nice laser and you can get a magnetic receiver thats designed to be used on excavators and dozers. Its been some time since I used one but I think they work a lot better than Trimble or Spectra. -

This is what I have Jim, It is remote controlled from the staff as well as having a horizontal and vertical beam. It automatic leveling as well.
If I was going again I would get a dual grade laser.......
this link shows what I have. All Lasers work with the machine controls. By the way the tolerance is 3mm in 30m.
