  • recommended plant sales in the south west

    HI
I am looking to buy a 1.5 ton mini digger and was wandering if you guys could recommend any dealers in the south west uk - I don't mind travelling further if necessary but although I am good mechanically I don't have much experience around diggers so could do with some recommendations of honest retailers and perhaps ones to avoid. I have rebuilt a number of petrol and diesel engines in the past but really only cars, I am a farmers son and have lots of heavier vehicle driving experience but not much in diggers apart from some hours in a jcb3c(will be looking to buy one of these in the future as well or may go for one of these first if the price is right)

as its going to be my first machine and I plan to train on it(I am researching training courses at the moment) I set a budget of 7.5k but would naturally like to go as cheap as I can really - the machine will not see extensive use at the moment just weekends etc - I don't plan on doing jobs for anyone else or any of my own until I have the proper training, insurance etc which may take a while.

jobs wise my father has a number of items that need doing around the farm - mostly small jobs plus I need to clear some ditches around my home hear the farm and level some ground in the back garden ready for an extension but not until I have got some practice and training in. I am thinking a 1.5 ton over a 3cx type backhoe at the moment due to space limitations.

    thanks

    will

Well I'm no fan of the JCB stuff, the technology in the older ones is out of the arc .. and they will work ok, but continue to give you the odd problem, and drop in value even more, where as the Kubota wont, although that one at the top looks a bit rich on the money TBH although the hours dont look too bad for its age. You can see its just had a full repaint, but not a great one. A lot of value needs to be considered on what has been spent on it recently, like has it just had new tracks ? etc.. they look not too bad .. I see its a jcb dealer who has it, and they tend to want rid of non brand stuff quite quickly. Also its a good time to buy when the market is quiet. I bet he paid about 4500 for it, so try knocking him down.
