  • Chrome Security warnings

Evening folks ... Turns out Google have uprated some of the security features in Chrome 56 which alerts the user that a browsed page is not secure because it doesn't use the https protocol . All our pages are rendered in http .. so the warning may show up. Https is meant to highlight security issues for sites that share sensitive data or do 'trade', where sending credit card details etc over the internet is vital to that web site, such as Amazon, but, its also now impacting on web sites that even just use passwords, which we do, to secure our users privacy.

So, sight of this warning message is not a weakness of your security here, its just an evolving protocol for internet usage which is a good thing, but transition to https (which means nothing to your actual use of the forum) is not necessary in my view at the moment . In time our Hosts may decide to change the way we get hosted, and I'll be happy with that, but in the mean time, their security of your passwords is top notch, and there is no reason for concern. Its just googles (and other browsers have done it but don't make a song and dance about it) way of alerting their customers to any 'potential' issues with their browsing.

This is simply a heads up, to allay any fears some of you might see on your browser, and you should continue using the forum without fear of any issue.

Fire fox users may not even know it, but clicking on the small circled 'i' next to the web address shows this ...

But they didn't make a big song and dance about it. As I learn more .. I will endeavour to make sure we are kept up to speed guys and of course will take action where necessary

Please don't PM me for plant advice.. thanks .. Post in the forum where I will gladly help, as will many of our contributors.. as the info and responses will help everyone else, which is why we exist
