    Hi, I have just bought the above machine, it has not been used for many years and would not start. The previous owner had cut some wires and added others, none of which I believe were necessary as I eventually managed to jury-rig the unit and it starts up and runs ok, having said that I haven't ran it for more than about 10 minutes.

    The issue I now have is that the machine will track forwards and backward, the body will slew left and right, the arm will move up and down and in and out but will not slew from right to left. The blade moves up and down fine.

    Someone told me that the button on the left control handle needs to be pressed once and the control lever will then move the arm right or left and not the cab, press the button again and it will revert back to the cab moving and not the arm. I took the lever apart to find the micro switch not working, however, I then thought I could just touch the two wires together once and it should alternate but it doesn't. All the fuses are fine.

    I could really do with a wiring diagram but have not been able to find one anywhere, so my first question is, does anyone know where I could find a wiring diagram from for this machine?

    Secondly, does anyone know where the solenoid or actuator that the left button should energise is actually located?

    Lastley would anyone know where I could get an operators manual from as I have never owned a mini digger only a full-sized old JCB, so a manual would be really useful to help maintain and understand the machine better as this will be with me for a long time if I can get it to work properly.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Most likeley be a faulty solenoid on the slew circuit ... observe the drive motor .. and work back to the block ..follow that back to some control gear somewhere, most likely another square machined cube that also links to the offset ram .. there will be some electronics on that that relates to the left hand control stick offset switch ... you will need to diagnose from there as the solenoid might be ok ?

      Hi, yes that is what I am trying to do, I started with the control lever which had two wires one yellow the other green but before they got too far into the loom they change to blue and black (all factory items) hence a wiring diagram would be very helpful, however as I haven't found one at the present time then going from the other end and looking at what the hydraulic's are doing is the only other option at the moment.

        Bit of an update, managed to spend a little time on the machine, worked out where the solenoid or actuator for the arm and cab slewing was located, removed the plug that has two wires going to it, did some continuity testing and it would appear that the button on the left lever, transmits to the panel on the right armrest where all the indicator lights are as well as the ignition key, from that panel it goes to the actuator. I have to assume that there are no relays involved as I can only find three relays in the whole cab area.

        Anyway, I put live to one side of the actuator and an earth to the other and I have now managed to move the arm to the straight-ahead position. I will put a switch inline and see if that will bypass the indicator panel.

        I'm now thinking that the indicator panel is a sort of control unit for everything and it may well be buggered. Doubt that they are easy to buy or have repaired but I do know of a fairly good ecu repair specialist not too far away so may take it off and let them have a look.

          Umm ok .. Older Pel Jobs did use the panel to manage a lot .. and they were very troublesome at times ... was a neat idea at the the time ....to have a single ' brain' .. but I would caution anyone tampering with the unit if they dont know what they are doing .. you might find the whole machine immobilised

            WTF do these manufacturers put so much leccy crap on these things ....

            switches, relays and wires ...... job done ...... sod all on summat that scale that could not be done 'old skool' and be far more reliable.
            start circuit, charge circuit, and whatever else is required to turn the lights on, etc., change from slew to boom swing, circuit for dead man, ...... I miss anything??
            If it's got tracks, wheels, t*ts, or an engine, at some point it's gonna give you trouble!!

              They did it, to try and cut down on plant theft too, by using the unit as an immobiliser as well .. which was an idea with all the right intentions .. ... what they didnt realise was how many of them would fecking break down anyway rendering the machine useless just as often, to the legal and rightful owner

                I do agree, that it would appear to be overly complicated for a small machine, if I can't get it fixed at a reasonable price I think I will rewire the thing from scratch, not a major issue in the grand scheme of things, battery, alternator, starter motor, ignition key and relay to switch on glow plugs and start, power from key to stop solenoid (currently operated manually by sawing off the end, removing it's innards, fixing a cable to the plunger and hooking it round a convenient bolt, pull out to start and run, unhook to stop, nice and simple). So the starting and running look easy enough, maybe the two-speed tracking and a few other bits could be a problem, but a capillary oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge to monitor the engine should suffice, lights and wipers are also easy.

                Currently using it as is and I'm really pleased with it, will need to get a track for it as one of them is well worn. The previous owner fitted one new one only for some reason, could be the price as it looks to be around the £450 mark for one track, ouch!

                A maintenance manual would be good as apart from the engine side of things I have no idea about these machines, at present just greasing things up with the grease gun till I see new grease coming out but I assume there is more to do that I am not aware of.

                  My pel job digger has got an error code for the temp sensor on all the time which I cant get rid of. none of the buttons on it work either. But I have put a temp gauge on it completely seperate of the puma unit which I got off ebay . The oil light warning and everything else is working but if anything else packs up on it I would get an auto electrician to rewire it and do away with the puma unit . I dont think it would be to bigger job to the right person.

                    There are a good few threads here about them... yours will most likely be a bad earth causing the fault ...thats how they worked

                      We have just inherited a Peljob EB30.4 from my father in-law who has passed away, we've trying to get it back to some form of working order (mainly for sentimental value) We've got exactly the same issue as you've had here with the switch on the left joystick not working to switch from rotating the cab/arm. The wire to the joystick had actually been cut, we reconnected it to try and straighten up the arm however now its stuck rotating arm and won't rotate the cab now.
                      Has anyone managed to come up with a good fix for switching between rotating the cab and rotating the arm?

                        Obviously very old thread now but just incase you still haven't sorted this, I fitted a rocker switch in the left hand side arm, when in position one, this allows the cab to rotate as normal, when in position two it switches on the solenoid under the seat to allow just the arm to move anmd cuts the power to the cab. Has been working really well for about a year now.
