  • EC15 generic alternative parts

    Hi all,

I'm after a number of parts for my EC15, however Volvo doesn't seem to want to respond to my "parts requests" and I don't imagine their prices are going to be especially pleasant. I'm after the following parts:

    • Radiator cap (I know it's 0.9 bar, but am not sure how to measure the size)
    • Coolant reservoir cap (mine is missing altogether, I'm not even sure what it looks like)
    • Fuel tank cap (mine doesn't thread on properly - it may be the threads on the tank itself, either way, with a tank that's more than 3/4 full, fuel splashes out through the cap.
    • Oil pressure sensor (just need to find the thread on this, I think. Not sure if it's normally open or closed, i.e. if it's a closed circuit when the oil pressure is low, or when it is high). I think it grounds itself when the oil pressure is low?
    • Water temperature sensor (no idea about this!)

Does anyone have any info on substitute parts which fit and work?

Volvo are professional B*stards at hiding the sources of the manufacturers ... truth is .. all are available .. just takes a lot of work finding them .. ive put a lot of info on this forum about this very struggle , if you do the research and ive a lot of stories as a result .. take the fuel cap for example.... (one thing I probabley havent mentioned here on the forum) they expand because of diesel corrosion ... but all the fecking thing is , is a drainage cap for a type of drainage product (whose name escapes me) and you can buy it from a drainage supplier for a fraction of the price .. its a bloody scandal... the water temp one was a beauty.... went half way round the world and discovered it was made 20 miles from me .. and that is a story
Please don't PM me for plant advice.. thanks .. Post in the forum where I will gladly help, as will many of our contributors.. as the info and responses will help everyone else, which is why we exist

Great, but can you find a UK supplier of the oil pressure sensor? Here are the Google results:

              https://www.google.com/search?q=oil+...sor+volvo+ec15

              https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Engine-Oi...-/263960585964
              http://777parts.net/volvo/EC15B/s9577.html
              https://www.amazon.co.uk/1077574-VOE.../dp/B07D9JVCVK
              https://www.volvoce.com/-/media/volv...6.pdf?v=Wfg5Pw
              https://www.fortismet.ie/volvo-ew150...249.26165.html
              https://www.onlinecarparts.co.uk/spa...re-switch.html

None of these will sell me the part!

Searching for "oil pressure sensor mitsubishi l3e" brings up an item on Aliexpress, which looks very similar to the generic sensors which you can find on eBay:

              https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-AUDI-O...H/303594713526

Does anyone know the thread of this sensor? Looking at the datasheets from the engine, and hoping they are to scale, the thread looks like M10. If the sensor fits physically, then it would be worth a shot to see if it will switch under operating oil pressure.

The radiator cap is part: PJ7418493
The water temperature sensor is part: PJ7410752
The fuel cap is part: PJ4740223 and the strainer is PJ6050081
The coolant tank cap is part: PJ7416260
The oil pressure switch is part: PJ7417132

Thanks. Still no UK supplier there for the temp sensor, and neither of those oil sensor suppliers have it for general sale. Also the oil sensor you linked to looks like the £3 eBay ones, and might be too long to fit the EC15 (looks like it would poke into the radiator fan shroud).

I've got some alternative part numbers for many of the parts from a Volvo parts supplier. They told me that Volvo no longer sells parts for these engines, and instead to use the Mitsubishi parts to purchase replacements:

                  PJ 7418493 (radiator cap) - 91201-02100

                  PJ 7410752 (coolant temperature sensor) - MM432104

PJ 7416260 (coolant expansion tank cap) - MM315438

                  PJ 7417132 (oil pressure switch) - 31A90-00100

Water temp sensor can be found here for £12 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Water-Tempe.../dp/B07Y9QC9WB

The biggest worry is the radiator cap. I can only find it in stock in the US, with approx £45 postage. If Volvo no longer supplies this part, that could make it difficult to replace.

ok. Would not worry about the rad cap. Buy a cheap one that looks like the original. It is not rocket science.

Bought the oil pressure sensor from the german supplier. It is ok.

I'm not sure where you can buy generic radiator caps from. There is a site in the US that sells them.

To ensure a proper seal, I'd be looking for one which matches the original.

The German supplier does not stock the sensor. Also with shipping this is €32. Surely much cheaper for a generic sensor from a UK supplier.

Suggest you try SMT in Stirling if it is just a couple of parts you are still looking for. Derek in stores replied the same morning earlier this week. There is also Campbell Plant Hire in Inverness who might know of alternative parts etc.

Better to find a cheap alternative generic radiator cap.

Thanks, I'll look them up. However I live nowhere near either of those places!

Previous contact with a Volvo CE parts dealer has told me that the Mitsubishi engine parts are NLA via Volvo.
