Mavis has 550 hrs on her and is, as you'd expect, in lovely condition, raring to go

I did have 20 min.s on Mavis this morning and she is VERY NICE
My steed (or should that be dobbin) was well late this morning ..... first day on a new job and she was damned near 5 hours late!!
Was nice to watch the rain come down ........ on the windscreen and turn the heater up to demist the windows some more. Very nice of 'the boss' to get me one with a lid on it !!
Having watched Mavis perform all day .... she's quite a tool .... stable as, with some HUGElumps of concrete on her bucket ...
totally planted, considering she got such a pert ill' arse, even full out with a gert grader full of top soil !! ...... oh and of course Alex (a CEF member I'm lending a hand or two to), handled her beautifully
As for the blade ....... every digger should have one
If it's got tracks, wheels, t*ts, or an engine, at some point it's gonna give you trouble!!
looks not bad for a hire machine .. Mavis does have a long crawler carriage and wiser ops would extend that further by using the blade for the 'noddiest' parts of the job .. once had a go on a zero tail kobelco that similarly impressed me, but its u/c was massive, conversely, it limits your work close in as a result sometimes

RJB Civil Engineering has bought the first Doosan wheeled excavator and trailer combination in the UK.

Lancashire-based RJB bought the digger-trailer combination from local Doosan dealer Norwest Plant. It comprises a Doosan DX160W-5 16-tonne wheeled excavator and a modified Bigab hook lift trailer.
Acting on the brief from RJB Civil Engineering, the blade on the DX160W-5 was modified to allow the trailer coupling to be mounted, with additional hydraulic circuits and controls in the cab fitted by Norwest Plant to allow for the trailer brakes and trailer tipping.
Popular in the Scandinavian market, this is the fourth excavator-trailer combination to be purchased by RJB Civil Engineering and approached various dealers for this one before choosing Doosan.
Managing director Robert Banham said: “We have had our faith in Norwest Plant and Doosan duly rewarded with the finished article and together with input from our clients, we have been able to enhance the design compared to the previous units we purchased.
“The excavator-trailer combination increases health and safety by removing the need for banksmen and other personnel on site and with less people, there is less chance for accidents and injuries to happen. By using the trailer to bring materials on to sites which are unloaded by the excavator driver, this removes the need and cost of hiring an additional tractor-trailer combination for this purpose, again increasing safety and productivity and decreasing downtime for the contractor.”
Norwest Plant incorporated a Bluetooth system for the trailer lighting, removing the need for additional wiring. The excavator is also fitted with a Geith quick hitch, rotation piping, vandal guards, hand rails and a seat belt beacon.

gotta say Muz ....... 'tis a lovely tool and for such a cute arse, it's in the 'Drema league for stability ..... the blade is a must have for spoil leveling .. so quick ! would have one in a heart beat ......... with a lottery win.
That said, when you compare the cost with say a £50 k car .... you get a whole load of metal and tech for not a huge amount more.
It's been in eco for 2 days at 2/3rds throttle and only sipped 150ltrs of cherry ....... pretty cooolio on the consumption and digs like a demon!!
Alex is, without doubt, a damned good op. and puts that blade to good use for all sorts of maneouvres ..... he's been looking for m/c for a while and would have one tomorrow ........ with a VA, to complete the package ...... oh and a tilty for good measure.

And yes, every digger should have a blade! Backfill is a dream.. Even useful as extra counterweigth too if it hinders sigth foreward
Well I wouldn't swap my Thwaites for it for sure ...... turning circle of a super tanker .... numb steering and wind like **** to get it to respond ..... which it does eventually ...... but so slow!! ... declutch button is on the gear lever ..... fine for a quick change ..... but when you come to tip yer gotta knock it out of gear on the shuttle ..... PITA
Shuttle on the right .... I steer with my right .... tip lever on the left ..... needs either a declutch pedal or a second button on the tip lever.
Like a bloody windmill swapping about from one control to another ..... and ........ I doubt it'd go where me Twaites does failed to climb a pissy batter today .... slick but just would not have it ..... I know what would've.
As for the skip ..... damned near touches the floor ...... fine if you want to push out with it, but up on the spoil heaps, it just drags it all back down.
I wouldn't rush out and buy one ...... heater's good though .... and as for the door retainers ....... ****ing things .... two bungees deployed this afters .... like a bloody greenhouse when the sun's out and the doors just would not stay open.
precipice fuel gauge too ..... full one minute ..... 1/4 tank next .... no linearity to it at all ........ and there was I thinking "this is good on motion lotion" - NOT
Dip stick's a bit of a PITA and I've failed to find a coolant level indicator/bottle/whatever
It's also not the easiest of climbs, to get on board
It is very solidly built though, fairplay

See it on FB a while back Stock .... nice trailer, but who in their right mind buys a mono boomed duck FFS !!
How the hell does he plan to use them forks, unless he uncouples the trailer ? .... I've got a set of fixed forks .. gotta get straight on to whatever you're trying to do .... only use em occasionally for summat heavy ..... VA-r mounted set get 95% of the fork use.

sounds like I wont EVER have one.. I'm the kind who gets hung up on the details, the small stuff.. Irritating as hell when things aint proper!

aye sorry guys ..... been real busy ...... owe you all a huge catch up ...... early mornings have been a shock to the Druid's 'retired' system !!
been a long time time since I had to be up at 6 every day and I am Bollo-ed .... finished there now for a few weeks after the 2 week job turned into 5 .... alex has burgered off with mavis to another site for 2 weeks, booked months ago ..... so I get a chance for a re-charge!!
Loads of pix for yers .... a lot in bucket and some still to load .... just been cream cracker-ed of an evening ......... watch this space
