This was written by the master lyricist Eric Bogle a scot in exile in Australia. He has penned many a tune including the iconic "Waltzing Matilda"
Eric called this No-mans land but his good friends the Fureys and Davey Arthur (a scot ) recorded it as the Green fields of France. The BBC band it on the grounds of it being an Irish rebel song supposedly slating the British not realising it was a ballad about WW1.
