IMO people/companies lose far more credibility by their tactics to evade rather than their honesty in admitting their fault and then rectifying it....when you only get recompense 'cos you asked for it and show them the reasons why they should recompense you, one is left wondering how much they get away with the rest of the time.


Is the fuel/coolant issue resolved fully yet?

BTW I finally got the bill yesterday and inc vat it was 1100 quid .. I'm considering sending them one for the 7 visits to the dealer it took to get it sorted caused by all their fook ups

Then another one appeared for £700 .. so £1800 odds total

I did ask them to do other work at the time, they did a drive axle oil change and a gearbox oil service, and fitted a new desicator

Anyway .. update .. I wrote to them stating that Scania would surely see this job as doo-able in an 8 hour day (without all the cock ups).. but going by their charges this meant they were charging £150/Hr going by their labour element on their invoices

So they've written back with an apologetic letter crediting about £330 in labour which I suppose is something.

The way the invoices are structured its not readily apparent what labour goes to what parts of the job .. obfuscation I think I would call it .. so in reality Ive ended up with charges around what it was going to cost .. in other words even with their credit I'm not much better off

[ BTW, the chap I spoke to was Colin Hadley from Solway DAF in Workington, Cumbria. They have a branch in Dumfries as well. In my experience they have always been top drawer in technical advice and standard of work.

I am minded to .. and Ive found a guy closer to home who might do. Thanks for the heads up on the DAF dealer .. my good lady is from Dumfries and I know it well .. but its too far for 24/7 help

I just wonder what a Scania job sheet says an injector sleeve should take to do in hours ? .. plus the removal of the others to find the faulty one ?

...had a chat with a reliable truck specialist today - mentioned your truck/fuel/coolant problem and he said it was either a head issue (injector sleeve) or the counter flow heat exchanger that continuously heats the fuel in a heat exchanger - probably a tube-in-tube job or similar. He said that on your truck they were sometimes factory fitted or, more likely, an after-sales add-on.
They can leak fuel into coolant.

This heat exchanger has nowt to do with the initial startup....

Thats interesting .... I have noticed on cooler days after some long running... the fuel in the tank becomes warm, but, quite a few engines will do this because of the injector leak off system that takes excess fuel back to the tank .. worth checking though .. thanks for that Because I'm not convinced the problem is fixed.

Muz, does your Scania have the fuel pre-heater pack installed?......(I don't mean the glow plugs!)

I dont think so ? but i have no idea it always starts on a second turn (or so it sounds) -5 or + 20 doesent seem to affect it

No .. I phoned the service manager on Friday afternoon to confirm all was well and that the engine sounded as good as it used to be,.. finally .. just to give the guy some relief but the receptionist said ... he wasn't available for the afternoon .. make of that what you will

That's good mate, I bought a few of these discs when doing my apprenticeship to give me a helping hand as I wold rather tighten bolts to correct tourqe and help diagnose odd faults! It's in fact what I used to diagnose the injector fault my uncles scania had that scania couldn't diagnose!

yes that's right scania came to Uist to diagnose the fault but left unable to do so!

No worries gus .. My ebay copy came yesterday .. and the DVD's actually had my truck 'in' the file system on them and they were a big bunch of files for sure ... I keyed in my serial number and come up with all my relative data .. wish I'd done it ages ago

Now I know all the dealer secrets for this truck

if I were you I would be making a big fuss to scania about this unfortunate incident! I wonder how often this happens! Have you ever tried first truck & van centre on London road? It's just after the new arena in the industrial estate! Used to use them when I worked at hunter Clark! They seemed very good! Never had problems.
although the service manger seemed a bit full of himself but that's another story...

Well it was back in yesterday, because of an exhaust noise I wasnt happy about, and got returned today to have it resolved.. and barring a cold start test tomorrow morning.... the result is .. FINALLY .. the engine sounds the way it did when I gave it to them.... just to have a simple injector sleeve done.

The service manager said they had fitted , or refitted some rings in the exhaust system .. which to my ear meant he really know what he was talking about.

When you drive something every day .. you know EXACTLY when it sounds different .. despite all the pish the dealers suggest .. In their defence .. they have now fixed it, but its taken many visits to do so which is rubbish service.


I will wait with anticipation to see how they invoice all this stuff

But it softens rubber and makes it weak ... as I mentioned earlier, Ive already had one hose fitting blow, and fear more to come.
